Handmade Chicken Nesting Box – Two Hole Hen Laying Box

After decades of raising chickens and building more nesting boxes than I can count, I've developed a design that consistently works well for both hens and their owners. This handmade chicken nesting box incorporates the features I've found most successful through years of observation and practical experience.

Measuring approximately 20 inches tall, 28 inches long, and 14 inches deep, this nesting box provides comfortable, secure nesting space for laying hens while remaining compact enough to fit easily into most coops.

One of the most important features is the sloped roof design. Hens naturally like to roost on flat surfaces, which quickly leads to messy nesting boxes. The angled roof discourages roosting, resulting in cleaner nesting areas, cleaner eggs, and less maintenance for you.

The open-front design makes egg collection quick and easy, allowing you to reach in and gather eggs without disturbing the birds any more than necessary. The size and layout have proven themselves over many years of use in backyard and small farm settings.

Installation is straightforward. The box can be screwed directly to a wall, placed on a shelf, or set on the floor depending on the layout of your coop. Its versatile design allows it to fit into a wide variety of chicken housing setups.

Each nesting box is handmade and fully assembled in my shop before shipping. Due to shipping constraints, some light assembly may be required depending on your location. Any assembly required can be completed easily using only a screwdriver.
