This pair of primitive wooden shoe stretchers is a rare and beautifully worn set of early cobbler tools, showing over a century of honest use and character. Constructed with traditional pegged joinery, they reflect the craftsmanship of a time when tools were made entirely by hand for long-term service.
Each stretcher shows exceptional aged patina and surface wear consistent with decades of use in a working shoe shop environment. The wood has softened and darkened naturally over time, giving them a warm, authentic look that makes them as appealing for display as they are for historical interest.
They are stamped “10-3” and feature a functional articulated center joint, allowing the stretcher mechanism to move as originally intended. The movement remains intact, and both pieces remain in good serviceable condition considering their age.
These are highly decorative and increasingly hard-to-find examples of early footwear manufacturing and repair tools. Whether displayed in a workshop, used as part of a primitive or industrial collection, or incorporated into rustic interior décor, they offer strong visual interest and genuine historical character.
A true conversation piece with outstanding patina and craftsmanship, unlikely to be found again in a matching pair.
